The second: 'Dhoni hasn't yet said he won't play. So let's wait.' India Today put Alan Jose John's name on the recap on Sunday night. Outlook, CricTracker and India.com ran the same quotes independently on Monday. Nobody produced a term sheet. Nobody produced a retirement.

The CEO went further than a denial. He said CSK has not discussed 2027 with Dhoni at all. 'MS takes his decisions on his own, and we respect that.' The standing invitation is the one Chennai has used for a decade: player, coach or mentor, whatever he wants, as a permanent fixture. That is not a job offer.
