30 July: the ECB announced him as England Men’s Test head coach. Joe Root returning as captain. Winter tour to South Africa. He succeeds Brendon McCullum. Seventeen days between the CSK statement and the England one. You can believe those seventeen days were a coincidence. You would be the only person in the room who does.
Chennai finished eighth in IPL 2026 with 12 points. Their last match was 21 May in Ahmedabad: 140 all out in 13.4, beaten by 89, Siraj taking three. They did not play again.
